UNDICPHERED | BOOK DESIGN & RESEARCH

“undicphered - the interdisciplinary type research and the role of Typography” is a popular scientific presentation that sheds light on interdisciplinary research on undiciphered fonts and highlights typographic peculiarities.

The role of typography is exemplified by the fonts presented here (e.g. Rongo-Rongo), because these old foreign fonts are also subject to typographic rules. Over 3000 of these unreadable characters have been digitally captured for the first time for this purpose and brought to a characteristic style, allowing a comprehensive overview.

Contrary to the largely "mystifying" way of representation, undicphered positions itself with a functional design and makes the various undeciphered writing systems visually comparable.

The work was awarded the rhineland-palatinate design prize (in category Design Studies & Research) and awarded with the silver DDC.

All undeciphered characters were produced for the first time in a uniform stroke width and thus become visually comparable.
